Hi everyone,

It’s time to learn another song. I will try to introduce different artists to give you different flavors from time to time. Since I recently finished watching “Boys Over Flowers”(꽃보다 남자>), this time I have chosen a song from this drama’s OST called “내 머리가 나빠서.” Actually I personally don’t even know the song very well because I have tried it in norebang (Korean name for Karaoke) and I didn’t know how to sing it. But after this lesson, I believe I can do it! (^.^)

This song was sung by SS501 which is a very popular group in Korea. And 김현중 from this group acted in this drama as well. Jan Di from the series to introduce the song for us. Here she is:

Let’s hear the song:

Here is the lyrics:

내 머리는 너무나 나빠서
(Because I am stupid)

너 하나밖에는 모르고
(Outside of you, I don’t know anybody)

다른 사람을 보고있는 넌
(You who is looking at another person)

이런 내마음도 모르겠지
(You have no idea of such feelings)

너의 하루에 나란 없겠지
(Your every day I am not in it)

또 추억조차 없겠지만
(Again, in your memories you don’t find me but)

너만 바라만 보고있는 난
(I am looking only at you)

자꾸 눈물이 흐르고있어
(Tears keep falling every time)

너의 뒷모습을 보는것도 난 행복이야
(Even looking at your back is my happiness)

아직 나의 마음을 몰라도
(Yet, You still don’t know my heart)

끝내 스치듯이 가도
(In the end like a person passed by you go)

Chorus
니가 너무 보고싶은 날엔
(In those days that I really missed you)

너무 견디기 힘든 날에는
(Those days are very hard to bear and painful days)

너를 사랑한다 입가에 맴돌아
(“I love you” spins around in my mouth)

혼자 다시 또 crying for you
(Alone once again crying for you)

혼자 다시 또 missing for you
(Alone once again missing for you)

Baby I love you I’m waiting for you

난 너의 하루에는 없겠지
(In your every day, I am not there)

또 기억조차 없겠지만
(Again, in your memories I am not there but)

너만 바라만 보고있는 난
(I am looking only at you)

혼자 추억을 만들고 있어
(I am making my memories alone)

내겐 사랑이란 아름다운 상처같아
(Loving you seems like a beautiful wound)

너의 예쁜 미소를 보아도
(I still see your beautiful smile)

함께 난 웃지도 못해
(I cannot laugh with you)

니가 너무 생각나는 날엔
(The days that I think about you so much)

가슴 시리고 슬픈 날에는
(My heart is cold in these sad days)

니가 보고싶다 입가에 맴돌아
(“I miss you” spins around in my mouth)

혼자 다시 또 crying for you
(Alone once again crying for you)

혼자 다시 또 missing for you
(Alone once again missing for you)

Baby I love you I’m waiting for you

Bye bye never say good bye

이렇게 잡지 못하지만
(I can’t hold you like this but)

I need you 아무 말도 못해
(I need you I can’t even say anything)

I want you 바래도 다시 바래도
(I want you I wish again I wish)

니가 너무 보고싶은 날엔
(The days that I miss you so much)

너무 견디기 힘든 날에는
(Those days are very hard to bear and difficult days)

너를 사랑한다 입가에 맴돌아
(“I love you” spins around in my mouth)

혼자 다시 또 crying for you
(Alone once again crying for you)

니가 너무 생각나는 날엔
(In those days that I really missed you)

가슴 시리고 슬픈날에는
(My heart is cold in these sad days)

니가 보고싶다 입가에 맴돌아
(“I miss you” spins around in my mouth)

혼자 다시 또 crying for you
(Alone once again crying for you)

혼자 다시 또 missing for you
(Alone once again missing for you)

Baby I love you I’m waiting for you

Vocabulary:
머리 – head
나빠 – bad
추억 – memory
바라다 – wish, desire, want, long for, yearn for
자꾸 – repeatedly, again and again
뒷모습 – the figure from behind
스치다 – go passed by (a person)
끝내 – in the end
시리다 – (a body part) be cold
입가 – the sides of the mouth, parts near the mouth
맴돌아 – whirl, spin around
잡다 – catch;get;take;seize;hold;take hold of;grasp;grip;clutch
견디다 – bear, stand
힘든 – painful, tough
혼자 – alone

Grammar Points:
verb stem + 듯이

This form means like, as, as if. In the lyrics, it says: 끝내 스치듯이 가도. It means in the end, like a passer by, you go.

More examples:
1. 음식이 몸을 기르듯이 독서는 정신을 기른다
Reading is to the mind what food is to the body.
2. 그는 네가 생각하듯이 그렇게 대학자는 아니다
He is not such a great scholar as you think.
3. 네 형이 하듯이 해라
Do as your brother does.

(Examples are taken from naver.org.)

My personal question this time is: How is 듯이 different from 처럼 in terms of usage and meaning? Anyone has the answer?

Please don’t forget to comment using the button above and let me know how you like this lesson? And don’t hesitate to ask me who is my favorite in F4. I do like one of them very much! (^.^)

See you next time!

Hello Grace~ How have you been?? 🙂
I thought you could sing this song. haha
I like your character that you made. Sooo~ cute!!
Wow~ this time your question is very difficult to answer. I think you’d better to remember sentences including ‘듯이’or ‘처럼’. Actually there are not much differences between 듯이 and 처럼. Even though these are not different a lot, you can tell 듯이 and 처럼 just through your feeling. But I know, it is very hard for you….T_T Anyway, I think the best solution is that you just memorize many sentences. But your points and explanations were very nice!!

      Hi Jooyoung,

So nice that you came by and check our song out. 🙂 We really didn’t know how to sing this song at the time of Karaoke. 😛 I miss the days we could hang out. I think I will translate “nobody” someday too! 🙂

I actually have not heard of 듯이 until this song. So that’s why I need some clarification. 🙂 That’s okay. I think they are quite close. From what I read, 듯이 is more like “as if” and 처럼 is like “like”. I guess that’s pretty close? I have to find some sentences on 듯이 to memorize. Maybe I will start with my examples here. 🙂

Please come back to check my blog often because you will see my Korean progresses. I just need to get my speaking level there! I think my listen is a little better now! 😉 I really feel that I am getting better.

      Grace

  2. Wendy says:

Aloha Grace. SS501 use to be one of my favorite bands but when they went on hiatus, I sorta of forgot about them. If you’re going to translate “Nobody” can I recommend that you use the Wonder Boy’s video. How come it’s not “내 바보” or something like that. I thought 바보 meant stupid. If this is a dumb question, forgive me. I’m a beginner. 한국의 교훈을 주셔서 감사합니다.

    • mwgrace says:

I thought SS501 just came back from their hiatus, right? I think I will translate “Nobody” and I will check out Wonder Boy’s video. Don’t know them yet.

What are you referring to when you said “How come it’s not ‘내 바보’?” I am not sure what the question is. 바보 means somebody who is stupid. That’s correct.

  3. annon says:

could you translate using the pinyin instead of the terribly complicating words? haha. so…who is your favourite f4?

    • mwgrace says:

      Hi Annon,

The purpose of my blog is really for people to learn Korean, the complicated words that you refer to. 🙂 So I don’t think doing pinyin is really doing anything to help us learn Korean. I think you should learn Korean with us because then you can sing more songs and go to Norebang (Karaoke).

My favorite F4 member is Kim Beom! He is so good looking! 🙂
