Hi all,

How are you? It’s time for another lesson. This time we will finish with the last song from the Korean drama “You’re Beautiful.” This is a song sang by Oh Won Bin, the ex-member of FT Island. So for all of you who misses Won Bin, this is a good chance to listen to him again. 😉

So let’s have Oh Won Bin introduce the song and say hi to everybody:

Here is a video of the song:

Lyrics:

you and me I will love you my boy

uh 도대체 어디에서 왔는지
(Where on this earth do you come from?)

머리에서 발끝까지 모두 완벽해
(Your are so perfect from head to toe)

ye 도대체 무얼 먹고 사는지
(Where on this earth do you eat to live?)

너의 표정 말투 모든것이 달콤해
(Your expression and words everything is so sweet)

잠들땐 어떻게 잠 드는지 똑바로 눕는지 옆으로 눕는지
(In bed times, how do you sleep? Do you lie on your back? Do you sleep on your side?)

무슨색을 제일 좋아하는지
(What is your favorite color?)

너의 사소한 것 하나까지 모두 궁금해
(I wonder everything from the smallest thing to the whole)

다른 사람과는 너무 틀려 우린 서로에게 자꾸 끌려
(You are different from other people. We are always attracted to each other.)

하루종일 니 목소리만 들려 이제 나는 어떡해~
(All day long I heard your voice. Now what should I do?)

알콩달콩 평생 난 너만 사랑하고 싶은데 너를 볼때마다
(I want to love you sweetly for my life. Every time I see you)

설레이네 가슴이 이런 내 마음을 아는지 넌 kiss me
(My heart pounds. Do you know this about my heart?)

하늘에서 천사가 내려와 내 맘 가득 사랑이 내려와
(The angel that descend from heaven, fills my heart with love)

하늘에서 내린 천사 같은 너 사랑해 영원토록
(Like the angel descend from heaven, I love you forever)

ye 그래 너는 나의 수호천사 니 옆에만 서면 나는 천사
(Well, you are my guardian angel. If I stand next to you, I become an angel)

수줍은 여자가 되 참 우습지만
(It’s laughable how I became a shy girl)

투정도 부려보고 싶은 소녀가 되
(I become a girl that wants to complain)

매일 밤 우리가 헤어질때
(Every night when we separate)

날 위해 불러주는 너의 예쁜 세레나데
(The beautiful serenade that you sang for me)

이 모든게 꿈인가 싶어 오늘 밤은
(Is this all I want to dream. Tonight)

정말로 집에 안 가고 싶어
(I really want to hold you at home)

다른 사람과는 너무 틀려 니 옆에만 서면 아직 떨려
(You are different from other people. If I stand next to you, I am still nervous)

친구들의 말은 모두 흘려 이제 나는 어떡해~
(My friends’ words I totally dropped. Now what should I should?)

알콩달콩 평생 난 너만 사랑하고 싶은데
(This life I just want to love you sweetly)

너도 나와 같다면 사랑을 말해줘
(If you are like me, tell me that you love me)

사랑이란 말을 느끼지는 말아줘
(Tell me the feelings you called love)

하늘에서 천사가 내려와 세상 가득 사랑이 내려와
(The angel that descend from heaven, who comes to fills the world with love)

하늘에서 보는 아름다운 널 사랑해 영원토록
(The beauty looking from heaven, I love you forever)

우리 사랑 평생 지금 처럼만
(Our love will be like now for a life time)

약속 할게 평생 지겹지 않아
(I promise our life time it will not be boring)

힘이 들땐 때론 친구 처럼만
(In tough times, we could be like friends for a while)

되어줄게 너의 모두이니까
(You are my everything indeed)

이 순간이 너무 행복해 너와 함께 웃는 너와나로 만족해
(I am very happy at this moment. With you together we laugh. With you I am so satisfied)

그래 너와나
(Yes, you and me)

그래 너와나 우리 사랑하고 있어 지금 너와나
(Yes, you and me. We are loving each other now. Now, you and me)

하늘에서 천사가 내려와 내 맘 가득 사랑이 내려와
(The angel that descend from heaven, fills my heart with love)

하늘에서 내린 천사같은 널 사랑해 영원 토록
(Like the angel descend from heaven, I love you forever)

하늘에서 천사가 내려와 세상 가득 사랑이 내려와
(The angel that descend from heaven, who comes to fills the world with love)

하늘에서 보낸 아름다운 너 사랑해 영원 토록

you and me I will love you my boy

Grammar points:
noun + 에서

에서 is a locative particle means from. It is use for locating the starting point of an action or the origin of something. It is often used together with 까지 which is also a locative particle that marks the end of the location.

Example from lyrics:
도대체 어디에서 왔는지
(Where on this earth do you come from?)

머리에서 발끝까지 모두 완벽해
(Your are so perfect from head to toe)

More examples:
1. 하국에서 편지가 왔다.
(A letter came from Korea)
2. 도서관에서 돌아와.
(I come back from the library)

-에서 is also a locative particle that marks the place of activity. It is used for any activity other than 있다 (to be) or 살다(to live). In that case, it will be translated as “in” or “at.”

Example:
1. 도서관에서 읽어요
(I read at the library.)

2. 은행에서 일해요.
(I work at a bank.)

Thanks for tuning in to this lesson. Please leave me a comment if you like this lesson or if you have any questions. I always welcome anyone to come and correct my translation too. Thank you very much.

See you next time. To all of those who celebrates Lunar New Year, 새해 북 많이 받드세요.

Hi! Would you consider doing a lesson with “It hurts”, 아파, from the Loving You a Thousand Times” OST Part 3. I love the lyrics and thought the editors did a great job in incorporating it into the script. See especially Episode 43. I am no where as accomplished as you are, but I too believe that singing is a great way to learn another language because except for rap music, 1)singing is usually slower than conversation, 2) there’s usually a good amount of repetition of phrases, 3) it’s more interesting than learning sentences like Kil Soo’s pencil is on the desk!

I can’t find the replay button to the original post above. So I’m using the button reply at the end of the comment. I just finished watching you’re beautiful (I know I’m like 3 years late since the drama aired in 2009) and I love this song! The vocab list from the song is really a brilliant idea! This song inspired me to try to learn Korean again. I’m going to start by learning the characters. How did you start learning the language? Did you first try to memorize the characters before forming words or can I just use the characters as references and straight away learn to form words?

      • mwgrace says:

        Hi,

I can’t believe you are watching this drama so late!  It’s still my favorite.  The songs are awesome!  Who is your favorite?

I started learning the language because of dramas too.  Now it’s mainly because of music.  I attended classes in the beginning and have been going for 6 year. Now I pretty much keep up by learning on my own and translating songs etc.  The way I was taught was learning the syllables like ㄴ, ㄱ so I can read all words.  Then it’s learning by vocabularies.  Songs are particular good for that because they always repeat.  If you hear enough songs, you will see there are some words appears quite often like love, don’t leave me, bye.  That really helped me in memorization and have fun at the same time.  I realized the vocabularies that I learn from songs I really don’t forget much.

I hope that will help you in learning Korean as well.

        Grace
